Winter Stories

of the Julian Alps

At the beginning of the new year, nature covered the Julian Alps with snow, the mountains were clothed in silence, and their slopes were marked with footprints, ski meanders, sled runs…with villages and towns taking on a romantic winter image.

If ski resorts are your thing, well, the ones in Kranjska Gora, on Vogel and on Soriška Planina are operational and working at full steam, with increased technical snowmaking capabilities, they ensure perfect snow conditions regardless of the weather. White powder also invites those who know how to read the mountains and snow conditions outside the groomed trails. Juliana SkiTour is the most famous network of touring ski lines that will take you to the most beautiful terrains for skiing of this type.

    Soča Valley – Winter exploration

In addition to hot chocolate and mulled wine, most cities in the Julian Alps offer you the opportunity to enjoy ice, as practically all of them have ice rinks. If you don’t have skates, you can rent them everywhere, if you don’t know, try and have fun, you won’t be the only one.

Of course, the most popular winter trails remain, which you discover on your own feet, whether equipped with snowshoes or not. The Tamar Valley, Tromeja, walks around lakes Bohinj and Bled, walks along the river Soča… winter views also open up at low altitudes. For those inspired by mountaineering, the snow-covered peaks of the Julian Alps are always inviting…but also worthy of respect! Because underestimating…doesn’t belong in the mountains.

Cross-country skiing is certainly the second most popular winter activity in the Julian Alps, after skiing. You will find excellent cross-country trails in Bohinj, Kranjska Gora, Planica, Soriška planina, Pokljuka and Log pod Mangart. With the Single Season Ski Pass, you will be able to ski all of these without limits, and in no case will you run out of terrains and choices.

You will find night sledding, with lighted sledges, on Soriška Planina every Friday and Saturday, but daytime sledding slopes are also available in Kranjska Gora, Pokljuka, Bohinj and Bled.

    Sledgging!
