Miren Kras, where the towns of Miren and Kostanjevica na Krasu are located, is on the border with neighbouring Italy. The River Vipava flows through this area, it crosses the border near Miren, and continues its way through Italy.
The pleasant sub-Mediterranean climate with many sunny days invites you to go to nature, which can be found in abundance here. The landscape has a lot to offer in terms of nature and culture—you can learn about this on the many educational and hiking trails that take you through the idyllic karst landscape. You can go hiking all year round. Autumn is particularly colourful, as this is when the European smoketree turns bright red.
If you’d like to get a bit of a workout, head to the Monument of Peace in Cerje, from where you can enjoy a magnificent view.
