Ski, climb, run

Experience winter in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps!

When winter shows its true strength in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, the valleys and peaks take on a fairy-tale appearance.

When snow conditions are optimal, the range of winter activities in these resorts is extremely varied and the views are breathtaking.

Krvavec has always been synonymous with skiing here – its sunlit slopes, perfectly groomed runs, and genuine mountain atmosphere attract numerous enthusiasts of the white pistes. Velika Planina, however, tells a different story. It isn’t primarily about skiing (although the terrain is excellent for beginners) but about a unique experience: sledding across a snowy plateau and then warming up with a cup of homemade tea. Jezersko is the ideal destination for families – besides a family-friendly ski slope and a mini toboggan run, it also offers an appealing tubing track that guarantees plenty of fun.

Cross-country skiing enthusiasts can enjoy two exceptional locations – Jezersko and the Logar Valley. Here, pristine trails wind among the majestic rock faces of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, designed to offer a true immersion in nature and complete tranquility.

For those who prefer walking over sledding on snow, snowshoeing is an excellent option – whether it’s venturing from Jezersko to the hidden corners beneath Grintovec or crossing the snow-covered pastures of Velika Planina. In Jezersko, two particularly popular hikes stand out: one over Jezerski Vrh to Roblekova Planina, which offers spectacular views, and another along the Ravenska Kočna Valley, a slightly gentler route.

Waterfalls in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps also promise adventure on cold winter days, waiting for intrepid and experienced (ice) climbers. In Jezersko, waterfalls such as Teranova Smer, Viki’s Candle, and Sinji Slap are popular; in the Logar Valley, more than 40 waterfalls await discovery; and those in Luče, the Kokra Valley, and the Kamnik Bistrica Valley offer additional opportunities.

Jezersko also features an artificial ice rink in winter, located right next to Lake Planšar. If the cold persists, the lake itself freezes over, and skating beneath the majestic peaks—surrounded by silence and crisp mountain air—becomes a truly unforgettable experience. There is also an ice rink in the Tuhinjska Valley, right next to Terme Snovik, where you can warm up in heated swimming pools after an invigorating session on the ice.

Winter in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps is always something special – it may not bring the legendary blizzards of the past, but it still offers the opportunity to enjoy it your own way – on skis, snowshoes, or simply in the good company of friends in a cozy mountain hut.
