Around the Julian Alps by bike

Circular long-distance mountain bike route around the fringes of the Julian Alps

    Juliana Bike

Cycle the 290 kilometre circular mountain bike route along the edge of the Julian Alps, discover the places and people and enjoy the wonderful natural setting of Triglav National Park.

The Juliana Bike mountain bike route is actually part of the Slovenian Mountain Bike Route (SMBR) and follows the philosophy of the Juliana Trail long-distance hiking route. It is marked with blue signs, which already indicate the Slovenian Mountain Bike Route, and just the logo of the Julian Alps (JA) has been added. The route follows local roads, cycle paths, forest roads and cart tracks through sensitive natural habitats, which demand that cyclists respect nature, plants, animals and also the personal property of the local inhabitants who coexist sustainably with nature in the protected areas of Natura 2000, UNESCO and Triglav National Park.

The main difference between the SMBR and Juliana Bike is that the starts and ends of stages are located in inhabited places, i.e. tourist centres of the Julian Alps where you can rest between individual stages in accommodation that caters specially for cyclists.

    Stages

Seven stages with a total distance of 290 kilometres run in an anti-clockwise direction. Their altitude difference totals a little under 8,5OO metres and the average stage length is 40 kilometres.
