Hidden beauty of Bohor

POSAVJE

Posavje is one of those regions that is often overlooked by outdoor enthusiasts, but offers very good opportunities for joyfull days, be it hiking, cycling, water or aerial fun. In this STORY, we have already covered the breadth (and length) of the offer in this beautiful region, characterized by the meanders of the river Sava, but today we will focus mainly on hiking and cycling.

    Lisca

The hiking and biking trails are well developed but not marked, and they do have interesting stories and are suitable for all age groups. The landscape offers medium-high and lower hills, with the highest peaks reaching between 500 and 1000 m above sea level, among others, some popular spots for hikers, such as Bohor, Lisca, Grmada, Gorjanci with wonderful views.

Bohor, from this list, is a mountain range with several peaks, including the easternmost »thousand« in the Posavje hills, which we really strongly recommend visiting, whether by bike or on foot. For instance, mountain bikers can do a really nice circular tour starting in Planina pod Sevnico and then over Zabukovje, Mrzla Planina, Veliki Javornik, Koprivnik, Špic, around the Debeli vrh back to Planina. Part of this tour also takes place along the Slovenian Alpine Cycle-touring trail.

Mountain bikers will find their paradise on Bohor

For a hiker or runner, it is of course almost “mandatory” to do the most famous tour of this area, the 4 Waterfalls Trail, which can be a full-day trip, but can be demanding/slippery in wet conditions. The waterfalls you’ll discover are called Bojanca, Pekel, Ubijavnik and Bojavnik, and they are still relatively unknown, so it is quite likely that you will be able to enjoy the peace and quiet.

For an easier, familiarisation tour, from Jablanka, take the 8 km Circular Route through Bohorje, that will take you about 3 hours, during which you will climb over 500 metres. Along the way, you will visit the peaks of Veliki Javornik and Veliki Koprivnik, and the trail will also take you past the Partisan Hospital, the Ubijavnik waterfall and, of course, the Bohor mountain hut.

If you really want to experience Posavje and find out a lot of interesting things along the way, you should know that every year there is a POSAVJE HIKING FESTIVAL, which takes place in two parts: spring – in May and June, and autumn – in October and November. It offers over 30 organised tours (hiking and cycling), together with expert guiding, an educational programme, Posavje cuisine and local stories.

The Posavje Hiking Festival is aimed at hikers, cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and abilities who like to discover new places in an active way.
