Areh is a small mountain plain at an altitude of about 1,250 meters above sea level and is connected to Maribor and Ruši by road.
On Areh or Ruško Pohorje you will find approximately 7 km of well-maintained and regularly maintained cross-country pistes. The pistes are fairly easy and mostly run through the forest, without steep ascents or descents. If you want a slightly longer trip on skis, you can also reach Areh from the top station of the gondola lift on Mariborsko Pohorje (Bellevue).
On Areh, there are 5 well-marked circular cross-country pistes of various lengths – from 1.3 km to 6 km. There are marking boards on all pistes that show the length, elevation profile of the piste and the position where we are. The terrain is mostly flat, and the occasional climbs are not too strenuous. We will enjoy some views at Žigartov vrh, where we meet the ski slopes, but otherwise we run through the forest. You can have refreshments in the Ruška koča hut or in some refreshment bars on the ski slope. Along the ridge between Areh and Mariborski Pohorje (the upper station of the cable car), there is a walking-running path, which is not intended only for runners and does not have a fixed “track” for classical technique.
