Treasures of autumn Posavje

The last dance of warm colors and sunny hikes

As summer slowly bids farewell and the days are painted in gentle hues, a transformation also begins in Posavje. In the autumn season, Posavje is at its most colorful, and perhaps this is why the autumn part of the hiking festival is the most popular.

Because autumn is magical yet fleeting, and is therefore most pleasant when we share it.

From now until the end of November, a series of 22 guided hikes will take place on weekends throughout Posavje, which you can join. On these hikes, you will experience the warm hospitality of the locals, taste the produce of local farms, and surrender to the true luxury of autumn while walking. A unique opportunity to discover the hidden corners of Posavje through this festival—which is attended by thousands of hikers every year—under the guidance of experienced local leaders.

Not a single hike you attend will disappoint you. The most popular are certainly the hike along the Brestanica Hiking Trail and the hike on the 4 Waterfalls trail. If you prefer a less demanding but even more interesting trip, then don’t miss the hike on the thematic Krškočara Trail, which you can also embark on in the evening by the light of torches in November.

The Brestanica Hiking Trail is circular in nature and, over a length of 17 km, takes you through some of the most famous locations in Posavje. You will begin in the town center at the “pranger” – a shame pole – from where a beautiful and colorfully vibrant forest path will lead you uphill to the Church of St. Mohor with a magnificent view of Rajhenburg Castle, the Sava River, and the surrounding hills. Through the village of Sremič, it then leads towards Grmada and continues between vines and vineyards to Bučerca and Anž. The path also passes a water reservoir to the source of the Lokovšek stream and through the pristine nature around Ribniki.

The hike along the 4 Waterfalls Trail will take you to four magnificent waterfalls – Bojanca, Pekel, Ubijavnik and Bojavnik. The waterfalls are little known to the general public and because of their mystery they proudly lie in the embrace of tranquility. The waterfalls are hidden deep in the ravines of streams, which is why the place is devoid of tourists. This hike is more demanding, as it will last 6 or 7 hours, and the terrain is also a little more difficult.

Krškočara is an adventure trail where families can discover the magic, the famous personalities of Krško, and the natural specialties of the municipality and town. The trail is approximately 4 km long with a good 150 meters of elevation gain, and in a good three hours, you and your family will experience an unforgettable hiking experience on it. Especially if you embark on it with torches, for, in the end, the night has its own power.
