    Water adventures

When it’s wet outside, it’s best to take the bull by the horns and find warm water to enjoy. Luckily, you’ll find plenty of warm water experiences in the Julian Alps. From the water park in Bohinj, to the wellness facilities on offer in the many hotels, campsites and tourist farms. Those who want a more private atmosphere can book an appointment at the wellness centre of Hotel Bohinj or Hotel Triangel in the Gozd Martuljek. Wellness facilities can also be found in Bled, at the Kompas Hotel, and in Kranjska Gora, also at the Kompas Hotel. If you are located in the Soča Valley, we can recommend you to visit the saunas, salt room and fitness centre at Camping Koren, or visit the brand new wellness centre at Hotel Dvorec, in Tolmin.

Culinary delights in the Julian Alps

The Julian Alps are known not only for their natural beauty, but also for their culinary offer. When it’s raining outside, you can take more time to discover the gastronomy of the Julian Alps without feeling guilty. From Michelin-starred restaurants to local taverns and everything in between. If you don’t spend a rainy day trying at least two of the famous local dishes, such as the Kobariški štrukelj or Frika, you can’t say you’ve experienced the Julian Alps. Lunch or dinner in one of the local tavernas and a rainy day enjoying traditional Slovenian dishes with a good wine will go by in a flash. Combine this with a tasting of local wines, schnaps and cheeses (t’minc, bohinc, Bovec cheese, etc.) and your hedonistic nature will be satiated, whether you choose a meal in a simple mountain hut or in a prestigious restaurant.

You say you prefer to spend your holiday budget on outdoor activities? Then we suggest you make the most of your time and prepare at least one of the traditional dishes on your own (well, it’s nicer in company tough).Recipes as a rule are not overly complex. Don’t have any? You can find them HERE.

No visit to Bled is complete without a visit to the famous Bled Castle. Rising above Lake Bled, the castle offers a magnificent view of the surrounding area and is the ideal place to explore history and culture. Planica wind tunnel

In addition to a permanent exhibition on ski jumping, the Planica Nordic Centre also has a wind tunnel where you can simulate jumping out of an aeroplane. Here you can experience the sensations of free-falling and flying through the air at 250 km/h, even in bad weather. If the weather improves during your “flight”, you can calm down after this adrenaline rush with an easy hike along the forest road to the mountain hut in Tamar.

Even during the bad weather, the Julian Alps are full of attractions and experiences that will delight everyone. Don’t let the rain spoil your plans, but let it take you on an exploration of the rich cultural heritage and excellent cuisine of this wonderful region.
