English travel guidebook Rough Guides, has published its pick of 100 best places on Earth for visit in 2020.
And among them, you will find Kamnik Savinja Alps. Publishers describe it as one of “the most stunning and least spoilt mountain ranges in Europe…. with a majestic wreath of jagged grey peaks, most of which top 2,000m”.
Kamnik-Savinja Alps are located south of the Karavanke range at the border of Austria and Slovenia, stretching from the Sava River in the west to the Savinja in the east. They cover about 900 square kilometers. They are steep, rugged, with high and almost vertical north walls and with much less steep southern slopes. Although their altitude is not extremely high, the highest is Grintovec with 2558 m, their slopes are still considerably high and challenging. Alltogether, 28 peaks surpass 2000 h.m.
You will find beautifull valleys like Jezersko and Logarska dolina, with many waterfalls, streams and some small lakes. Less crowded mountain tracks, great views, and hardcore sports lovers are the name of the game here.
