Soča Valley

Excellent thermal conditions, favorable wind conditions and a diverse mountain landscape create exceptional opportunities for aerial adventures in the Soča Valley. Visitors can admire the valley while paragliding, adrenaline-pumping skydiving or gliding over the Julian Alps.

Paragliding

The Soča Valley is popular with paragliders, as numerous take-off sites allow you to choose a suitable starting point depending on the weather conditions. Among the most famous are Stol above Kobarid and Kobala above Tolmin, while popular take-off sites are also located above Bovec.

Stol, with its more than 20-kilometer-long panoramic ridge, offers excellent opportunities for long flights and large competitions. Kobala is a famous competition venue and an excellent starting point for flights along the southern ridges of the Julian Alps. In the Bovec region, paragliders can take off from Mangartsko sedlo, Kanin, or Skripovi and Planja.

Tandem flights with experienced operators are available for visitors without previous experience. During the flight, views of the precipitous cliffs, green forests, high peaks of the Julian Alps and the emerald Soča River open up.

Skydiving over Bovec

A skydive is one of the most adrenaline-pumping experiences in the Soča Valley. From the Bovec airport, the plane climbs to approximately 4,000 meters above sea level, and then the participant, in tandem with an experienced skydiver, experiences approximately one minute of free fall and a safe landing with a parachute.

A special feature of the jumps in Bovec is the exceptional Alpine scenery. The airport is located in the immediate vicinity of Bovec, in the middle of a green landscape surrounded by gray-white mountain peaks. Skydiving is carried out by the company Aviofun, usually on weekends.

Every year, the Aviofun Skydive Camp is also held at the Bovec airport, which attracts many international skydiving enthusiasts. Experienced skydivers perform formations in the air, and visitors are offered tandem jumps, panoramic flights and an accompanying program.

Gliding

Many consider Bovec Airport to be one of the most beautiful sports airports in the Alps. Especially in the summer months, it becomes a gathering place for glider pilots from near and far. The runway is oriented in the direction of the two most common winds in the Bovec region and is well prepared and maintained.

After detaching from the towing aircraft, glider pilots circle along precipitous cliffs and mountain peaks, above green forests and in the company of paragliders and mountain birds of prey. Deep below them, the emerald Soča River winds through the valley. Especially in spring and early autumn, conditions can also be created for wave gliding and reaching great heights.
