A place with no worries even when the weather is not the most beautiful

Julian Alps

When greyish clouds heal over the Julian Alps and the rain begins to whisper quietly along the roofs, it may seem that the mountains have closed their doors. But just such days turn our alpine garden into the mystical land, emphasize the warmth of homeliness and give you the opportunity to calm down and focus on things at a slow pace!

Although rainy weather is not ideal for demanding tours, Kranjska Gora, with its free bus transport, gives easy access to the starting points for easier walks and attractions. Thus, you do not need to be burdened with packing the car and driving in the rain, and the driver doesn’t need to worry, when he wants to warm up in a mountain hut.

Because even in bad weather, you can still enjoy some of the main attractions in the rain. All you need is the right gear—a raincoat or an umbrella—and a bright outlook on life.

Free bus rides will take you to the Zelenci Nature Reserve, the Planica Valley, and the Planica Nordic Centre, as well as the mountain village of Mojstrana and the Vrata Valley, where short walks—even in the rain—bring fresh perspectives and inner satisfaction. One might even say that a light drizzle is the perfect companion for a visit to Zelenci, where raindrops from above and pearly bubbles rising from the ground merge in the emerald-green spring. Even a short walk from Planica to the Tamar Valley will be exceptionally pleasant and easy, with a cozy mountain hut waiting at the end of the valley.

At the Planica Nordic Centre, you’ll discover the history of ski flying and can even try a simulated ski jump to experience the adrenaline that Planica has been delivering for decades. And while you’re there, don’t miss the film about the legendary Planica competitors.

A new ski jumping record was also set here this year, and in honor of this, a wooden sculpture was erected in Planica depicting the moment of landing at the record mark.

Hidden in the basement is the only indoor snow tunnel where you can try cross-country skiing any time. The center also features a wind tunnel, letting you experience free-fall conditions. Rain and bad weather? You won’t even notice them here!

When it’s time to refuel, you’ll find yourself smiling at the raindrops from the cozy comfort of a local café. With a slice of homemade blueberry strudel and a steaming cup of herbal mountain tea with honey—or perhaps a coffee—before you, watching the clouds drift lazily past the peaks becomes a true delight for the senses. For heartier cravings, the aromas wafting from nearby inns will lure you in for a warm bowl of žganci with mushrooms or a hearty jota stew. And if you’re curious about the secrets of Alpine cuisine, you can even join a hands-on culinary workshop.

The ultimate relaxation, however, awaits you in the evening at the hotel wellness centers. There, hot baths, soothing massages, and steamy saunas will melt away every last trace of tension.

    And as...

...you return to your bed in the evening, you might realize the rain didn't ruin your day – it simply allowed you to experience Kranjska Gora in a different, more intimate way. The world around you became softer, the colors more vivid, and the experiences more memorable. In Kranjska Gora, there's no bad weather – just different opportunities for new stories.
