This plateau covered by spruce forests is located in the Julian Alps within the Triglav National Park. Many of you must have heard of Pokljuka, as the Pokljuka Sports Centre hosts World Cup biathlon races. With more than 30 kilometres of cross-country skiing trails, Pokljuka is an incredible location for recreational skiers and the best advanced skiers alike. Not to even mention the wonderful nature and views.

If you descend from the Pokljuka Plateau towards Bohinj, you’ll find plenty of cross-country skiing opportunities in the Bohinj Valley, which is a true cross-country skiing paradise in the right snow conditions.

    Cross-country skiing events in Planica

You can go skiing with the best if you visit the Planica Nordic Centre near Kranjska Gora. There, you can go cross-country skiing even in the summer: 800 metres of a snow-covered trail in an underground tunnel is available for the greatest enthusiasts even in the warm months of the year. In the winter, when there is no lack of snow, Kranjska Gora and its surrounding area offer numerous cross-country skiing opportunities. More than 40 kilometres of dedicated trails take you from Kranjska Gora into all directions: past the Planica Nordic Centre into the Tamar Valley. Towards Gozd Martuljek. You can also go cross-country skiing in Rateče, right along or across the border with Italy. Or in the nearby town of Mojstrana.

World-class athletes and recreational athletes alike love visiting the Rogla Cross-Country Skiing Centre in the Zreče Pohorje Hills. There are more than 24 km of dedicated trails with various levels of difficulty and length as well as a start/finish arena suitable for teaching beginners and practising. Are you looking for even more tips for cross-country skiing and enjoying unspoilt nature?  We’ve got some. Another excellent choice is Jezersko, which is an area that is a part of the Kamnik and Savinja Alps and borders Austria.

Shorter trails, which you’ll probably like for their views, can be found at the Vogel Ski Centre and in Soriška Planina.

You’ll certainly never forget the 13-kilometre circular trail in the Logar Valley in the Kamnik and Savinja Alps.
