TIPS FOR ACCOMODATION:
PARENZANA CYCLING TRAIL
For one of the nicest cycling trails through Slovenian and Croatian Istria we can thank the builders of the narrow-gauge railway between Trieste and Poreč. It was built more than 110 years ago, and the last train ran on it in 1935. Parenzana, or the Trail of Health and Friendship, as it is also known, is an ideal course both for recreational bikers and more serious cyclists, since the inclines are gentle, and the trail runs for just over 120 km through numerous fascinating spots of Istria. The entire route runs over 11 bridges, six viaducts and through eight tunnels, testament to the construction effort, while at the same time they make the trail highly appealing. You can ride Parenzana in one go or in sections, depending on your fitness, and you can use either a trail or mountain bike. And where should you go for refreshment after taking a nice ride and enjoying the sunny views? To a typical Istrian inn, of course.
